Only about 45 minutes from Salzburg is located the Tennengebirge, where you can find a unique natural phenomenon. The largest ice cave in the world.
Huge ice formations have formed in the approximately 40 km long cave system of the Eisriesenwelt, which can be visited on a guided tour through the completely iced part of the cave, from April to October.

The temperature in the cave is only about 0° Celsius even on the hottest summer days, so warm clothes and the right shoes are a must!

Not only the spectacular ice figures and the impressive cave system, but also the wonderful view down into the Salzach valley to Hohenwerfen Castle and the panoramic view of the snow-covered peaks of the Hohe Tauern makes the side activity a unique experience.

The  first access leads from the village of Werfen along an approx. 5 km long, well-maintained access road to the visitor center. This is followed by a 20-minute walk to the valley station of the cable car. This takes you up 500 meters in altitude along the steep mountain walls. After another 20-minute hike, you reach the mighty entrance portal to the ice giants. You should plan about three hours for the visit.
